First Lego League Challenge Competition Team (4/5)

Grades of Students in the Club: 4-5
Application/Join Process: Students fill out applications in August. Applications are reviewed and evaluated. Up to 10 students are chosen to represent MPES.  
Cost: $50 (includes t-shirt and supplies for FLL Tournament) Sponsorships are available based on need. 
Description of the Club: The FIRST LEGO League Challenge is an international competition organized by FIRST for elementary and middle school students. Each year in August, FIRST LEGO League Challenge teams are introduced to a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on. They also work on building and coding a Lego Spike Prime robot to solve missions on a robot game board. 

First Lego League Explore Team (2/3)

Application/Join Process: Up to 8 Students Application via pick up from Ms. Weltch (around December/January)

Description of the Club: FIRST Lego League Explore challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. In Explore, students will focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks powered by LEGO® Education SPIKE Essential. The team will develop, share, and refine a solution to a given problem. The core values (discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and fun) guide the team through preparation and competition.

Application/Join Process: Up to 8 students - Teacher Recommendations & Parent Approval
Cost: $20

Description: The children will explore how people share what they love to do with others. They will learn about the different places where ideas are shared, who they are shared with, and the people behind the scenes that make experiences happen. The children will build a stage that can be used to host a music concert or theatrical performance, or to display an object in a museum. They will use elements from the STEAM Park set to build their ideas. They will create their own place to share their interests and will consider the audience. They will test and improve their designs and creations. The children will record their ideas and designs in their Engineering Notebooks. They will share their builds and what they learned with others. Finally, they will participate in the celebration event, to which you can invite their families and friends. Most importantly, they will have FUN!

Description of the Club: Chorus is a chance to learn to sing along with other aspiring musicians! We will learn musical performances together and share with audiences in December and April! 

Readers Rally

Description of the Club: Readers Rally is a quiz bowl style competition where students compete against teams from other schools in the county.  Students will be required to read 10 books and become experts on those books in order to answer questions about them. Up to 10 of our club members will be chosen to represent MPES at the county competition in February.

Application/Join Process: Limit of 16, join through My Payments Plus, Sign Ups open on August 17 at 10 am and close at Midnight on August 26.
Cost: $20
Dates and Times: Wednesdays,  September 2, 9, 16, and 23. Pick up is at 4 in front of the school. If your student is not picked up by 4:10, they cannot remain in the club. 
Description of the Club: Club members will learn basic sewing stitches that they will use to make a stuffed plushie.
